The Board of Trustees of Berkeley Montessori School, established 1963, has announced that effective July 1, 2009,the school will be known as The Berkeley School.

Board Chair Ann Fischer Hecht said, “This is an exciting moment in our school’s long history. Adopting a new name is an outward reflection of the changes we’ve been making to our program over the last few years. We will always find value in the progressive legacy of Montessori education on which our school was founded, but we’ve been adding other, newer teaching strategies to the mix, and as time went on, we found that our name was confusing to prospective families.

We want to capitalize on being a ‘school for the future,’ educating children for success in the 21st century, with a name that better reflects who we are and what we do. This is especially true now, with record enrollment and interest in our school continuing to be strong.”
