Admissions
We hope you’re here because you are excited to apply to our school. We are always eager to welcome prospective families, and we hope you find the application process straightforward and easy. Basically there are three steps outlined in the Admissions Process page
Now, we know that a lot goes into to finding the right school for your children, and for your family as a whole. As you read about our program and philosophy, and learn about our fantastic community of parents, teachers and students, our hope is that you become excited about joining us. (Speaking of our fantastic teachers, click here to see what they were up to on one recent professional development day!)
So, what are we looking for? Who will be a good fit at TBS?
We’re looking for kids who will be the leaders of tomorrow, the kids who will take action, the kids who will be dissatisfied with our generation because, in short, they want to remake the world.
The kids (and families) who thrive at TBS are motivated, enthusiastic and intellectually curious about the world. They are truly excited about learning, and our parents want to instill that feeling in their children. Our families want their kids to be academically successful, but not at the expense of killing their inherent curiosity.
We want them to be stimulated, to be challenged, to be shown new ways of thinking about the world. We want them to understand their place in history, not just memorize a bunch of key dates. We want them to understand how algebra works, not just memorize how to solve quadratic equations. We want them to be prepared for success at any high school they enter, from the most demanding college preparatory program, to large public high schools or specialized independent schools.
Along the way, we strive to provide an environment where they love coming to school! We are a place where students don’t just “do” school; but rather one where our students are engaged, and where they use the foundational skills they learn in assignments, individual and group projects, and field trips. As for parents, we’re looking for families who actively support their children’s education and who understand that true education is not just about preparing for standardized testing – although in today’s world one has to be able to master that too!
Diversity
The Berkeley School is a vibrant and inclusive community that celebrates all types of family structures and a broad spectrum of students. We welcome families of any race, color, national and ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, as well as the differently-abled. We look forward to welcoming your family to our campus.
Because of our low student–teacher ratios, every child is an important part of the classroom, and therefore we evaluate each one individually. We invite you to arrange a tour, and when you’re ready, to download an application and send it to us.
Of course, if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them; just call or send me an email.
Thank you for your interest in our school,
