After the April 5 death of former Head of School Janet Stork, we were naturally asked whether the auction would still go on. After speaking with the TBS administrative team, and a handful of teachers and parents, we feel it is important for the party and auction to go on, not in spite of Janet’s death, but in celebration of her life.
Professional development for our teachers was an integral and unique part of Janet’s vision for our school. She strongly believed that teachers must be nourished and challenged with opportunities to learn new skills and strategies, and deepen existing philosophies and routines. As a TBS teacher reflected just today, the seeds of this vision were planted several years ago and are just now truly coming to fruition.
The TBS party& auction is the vehicle we use to raise the funds needed to pay for these professional development opportunities, and we believe we can best honor Janet’s memory and legacy by going ahead as we’d planned. It is also a time and place for us to come together as a community and celebrate. Now more than ever, we need to do just that. And Janet — as many know — loved a good party. We feel certain that Janet herself would cheer us on, and tell us it’s important for the show to go on. So in her spirit, and in her honor, the annual Party & Auction will still be held this Saturday, April 10.
