Extended Day
The Berkeley School supports families.
We offer before-school care beginning at 7:30 am every day at the University Campus, and at 8:00 am at the Early Childhood Center. After-school care is available until 6:00 pm every day at both campuses. TBS Extended Day program and vacation camps are themselves carefully designed to be in line with our school’s mission and values, offering authentic choice within structure, hands-on learning, care for others, and FUN!
AT THE ECC, our afternoon Extended Day program is a more relaxed version of the school day for these very young students. We provide children with an environment that is safe and nurturing, allowing them choices for active, outside play as well as relaxing, inside activities. Children play and work with students from other classrooms, building a community that is consistent day to day. All of the teachers in the Extended Day program are on campus during the regular school day, and work closely with the classroom teachers.
Children transition to the Extended Day program during the last classroom circle and gather in the Art Studio. Children are welcome to have a snack (we provide a snack, and/or children can eat from their leftover lunches). Between 4:30 and 5:00 pm we gather inside for quiet time. Children can enjoy tea, a read-aloud story, or choose a work or art project.
AT THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, students participate in the Extended Day program differently, depending upon their level. K-5th grade students can participate in the afternoon Extended Day program in one of three ways: parents may purchase either a full year contract or pre-paid blocks of 20 hours; or students can attend on a drop-in basis. The Extended Day program offers a variety of classes, usually from 4:00-5:00 pm. Students do not sign up for classes in advance, and classes offered by the Extended Day staff and parent volunteers are included in Extended Day fees.
Extended Day activities until 5:00 pm for 6th-8th grade students are included in their tuition. The only classes for which Middle School students need to sign up are sports with Craig; please sign up directly with Craig at cjackson@theberkeleyschool.org.

To purchase pre-paid blocks of 20 hours ($220/20 hours) or if you have questions about the program, please contact Kate Klaire, kklaire@theberkeleyschool.org. Pre-paid blocks save you $2.50 per hour over the drop-in AM and PM rate of $13.50 per hour (billed by the half-hour).
