7/8 Grade Math Teacher

Overview of Position

The Berkeley School is seeking a 7th and 8th grade math teacher to join a team of teachers in a highly collaborative, student-centered middle school. With the support of the Middle School Director, the teacher will be responsible for math curriculum design, review, and implementation. He or she will lead an advisory group of 10-12 students and will work closely with the middle school teaching team to plan and carry out interdisciplinary projects, international travel, outdoor education, and service learning.

A deep understanding of the mathematical foundations for learning algebra
The ability to maintain an inclusive classroom and to differentiate instruction
A desire to work collaboratively
A genuine appreciation for middle-school students
A passion for mathematics and its instruction

Preferred Qualifications

California teaching credential in mathematics or 3 years teaching experience in math at the middle- or high-school level
Experience teaching in a progressive and collaborative environment
Experience in outdoor education or service learning, especially with middle-school students
Interest or experience in project-based learning
Ability to use technology effectively in the classroom
Strong organizational skills
Flexibility and a sense of humor
