This is an optional, drop-in time for students to work on assignments, get help from teachers, and bolster study skills. Good Work takes place on Mondays and Thursdays, after school from 3:35 PM to 5:00 PM.

The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth assessment is a fully adaptive computerized test measuring children’s reading, language usage, and math understanding. The test results provide an equal-interval achievement scale that measures longitudinal growth, independent of grade-level markers, which the teachers then use to inform instructional decisions because results indicate student readiness for particular skills and concepts based on their performance.

Dear 6th and 7th Grade Parenting Adults,
The Berkeley School provides students with access to digital ebooks and audiobooks through Sora, a library app for schools. In addition to providing audiobook support for the literature students read in English class, Sora offers students access to a library of digital books that is accessible at home and at school. In order to broaden the choices available to middle school students and encourage more independent reading, we encourage students to add their personal library cards to their TBS Sora accounts, so that they have access to the wider array of books available at the public library.
If your student already has a library card, please consider sending the card (or just the card number) to school with them this week so that they can sign in to the library through Sora. If your student does not have a library card, we are offering an optional, opt-in, field trip to the West Branch of the Berkeley Public Library, just a short distance across University Avenue from TBS. Of course, having a library card is beneficial in many ways, and even if your student has a library card in another city, they may also sign up through one at the Berkeley Public Library as a TBS student.
This optional, opt-in field trip to the library will take place during recess and advisory on Tuesday, May 6th. It is not required that your child attend, but if they do wish to attend, please return the permission form and library card application that will be sent home today by Monday, May 5th. (Students who already have library cards may also join us on the field trip if they wish!)

"Hello 6th and 7th Grade Parenting Adults,
We are quickly approaching the third trimester, and so we are planning our end of the year overnight camping trip for 6th and 7th grade. On May 7th and 8th we will be taking the students to Del Valle Campsite. We will stay there for one night before making our way back by the end of the school day on Thursday, May 8th. Teachers, Student Council, and each class will be planning activities for us to engage in during our time together. It will be a wonderful time to bond and set group and individual goals for the end of this school year and the beginning of the next one.
We are asking students to bring their own sleeping bag, and we will send out a list of other supplies closer to May. Please let us know if you need support with this or have any questions.
We are sending home a permission slip for this trip soon.

The test results provide an equal-interval achievement scale that measures longitudinal growth, independent of grade-level markers, which the teachers then use to inform instructional decisions because results indicate student readiness for particular skills and concepts based on their performance.

Good Work takes place on Mondays and Thursdays, after school from 3:35 PM to 5:00 PM.

I am very excited to let you know that with the help of our 6th grade parenting adult, Emily Jennings, the Director of School and Family Programs at the de Young Museum, 7th and 8th grade students are scheduled to visit the exhibitions Isaac Julien: I Dream a World and Leilah Babirye: We Have a History on May 15th, leaving campus at 8:45am and returning to campus before dismissal.
Thanks to all the teacher volunteers who offered rides/chaperoning, we are able to drive all the students to the museum and back to campus. I have attached a copy of the permission slip here and have sent hard copies home with students. Sign and return the permission slips as soon as possible .
Please make sure that the students are prepared for a full day of walking, and remind them to bring a packed lunch, water, and layers.

We will be administering our yearly MAP Growth testing with 4th through 8th graders between Tuesday, May 6th and Friday, May 23rd. The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth assessment is a fully adaptive computerized test measuring children’s reading, language usage, and math understanding. The test results provide an equal-interval achievement scale that measures longitudinal growth, independent of grade-level markers, which the teachers then use to inform instructional decisions because results indicate student readiness for particular skills and concepts based on their performance.
